Trailer VIN Verification Guide
March 5, 2026 5 min read
Why trailers need verification
Out-of-state and homemade trailers usually require a VIN verification before California will register them. The DMV needs to confirm the trailer's identity and, for homemade trailers, assign or verify a VIN.
What we verify
We verify utility trailers, enclosed cargo trailers, boat trailers, and travel trailers. For homemade trailers, we document the details the DMV needs for a REG 31 and, where applicable, VIN assignment.
How to prepare
Have the trailer accessible with any bill of sale, receipts for materials (for homemade units), and out-of-state paperwork if applicable. We meet you at your yard or storage lot.
